The music industry in Uganda is buzzing with the recent accusations made by singer, Ibrahim Mayanja, popularly known as Big Eye Starboss, against his former friend and fellow singer, Eddy Kenzo. In a recent social media post, Big Eye accused Eddy of being a selfish man who has kept all his international contacts and connections to himself for almost a decade now. He further went on to add that this selfishness is the reason why Eddy did not succeed at the recent Grammy Awards.
This post has sparked mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. Some believe that Big Eye is right to call out Eddy over the matter while others don’t concur. In a recent appearance on NTV’s Mwasuze Mutya show, Big Eye further revealed that Kenzo blocked him many years back when he tried to ask for those same connections. He stated that he asked for the contacts from Eddy and his management thinking that they were his friends but Eddy went ahead to block his contact on the phones of his team members.
The music industry is a competitive space, and every artist wants to make it big globally. The fact that Eddy Kenzo has been able to make a name for himself on the international stage is commendable. However, this kind of behavior, if true, does not bode well for the music industry as a whole. Sharing contacts and connections is essential in any industry and it is crucial for the growth and development of upcoming artists.
“One time, I was trying to get those contacts from him and his management. I asked them thinking they are my friends but (there is) something selfish he did. He went to his team members’ phones and blocked my contact,” Big Eye said. “If this inconveniences anyone, you will forgive me. I only realized this when someone disclosed to me and told me that he blocked my contact in their phones. I’ve kept that for some years. I think he also changed his number,” he added.
These accusations against Eddy Kenzo have sparked a heated debate, and it will be interesting to see how he responds to them. Whether Big Eye’s claims are true or not, one thing is for sure, it has brought to the forefront the importance of collaboration and support in the music industry. Artists need to come together and support each other if they want to make it big globally.
