To assist with the investigation into the attack on Bungokho Police Station, three police officers, including the Officer in Charge (OC), have been detained. Unknown intruders broke into the Bungokho Police Station on Wednesday night and fled with two guns and a radio call, causing panic in the neighborhood.
The OC was in possession of the guns, and he and three other officers were detained to assist with the investigation, according to Elgon Region Police Spokesperson Rogers Taitika. Taitika withholds information about whether or not the guns taken were loaded.
The incident, according to the locals, was caused by the police officers’ laxity and negligence since they were supposed to be the custodians. Mafabi According to Chris Omia, the Chairperson of LC3 Bungokho Sub County, he has heard rumors about these officers’ absences.
“Especially in the evening people go to report cases and hardly find a police officer to attend to them.” “So, it simply means they go and booze or to the Bibanda to watch football. For us as local leaders we have been hearing accusations from the public that these police officers are always absent from the station,” he said.
The incident is included in the statistics of numerous connected incidents across the nation.
