Police have confirmed that Pius Kamugisha, one of the directors for neighborhood radio station Galaxy FM, died in a terrible accident on the Entebbe Expressway.
According to a statement made by the spokesperson for the Traffic Police, ASP Faridah Nampiima, in an accident that occurred at Nakigala at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Pius Kamugisha, who was driving a Benz with the license plate UBK 320P, attempted to pass Lt. Col. Ephraim Byaruhanga, the intelligence officer for the UPDF’s first infantry division in Kakiri, who was driving a Toyota Hilux.
“It’s alleged that both drivers of both motor vehicles UBK 320P Benz and UG 0382D were from Entebbe side heading to Busega side via Entebbe-Kampala Expressway and towards Nakigalala at Kilometer 10, the driver of UBK 320P(Kamugisha) who was speeding decided to overtake the Toyota Hilux which was driving in the outer lane at a short distance and in the process, he knocked it*Hilus) on the rear light on the driver’s side,” Nampiima said.
She observed that the Benz kept going, scraping the driver’s door before knocking the side mirror off.
“Kamugisha, the deceased lost control and knocked the middle concrete barrier, the vehicle crossed back to the outer lane, rolled to the trench then overturned several times up to the resting position approximately 600m from the point of impact.”
Pius Kamugisha, according to police, had a shattered arm and extensive brain injuries, but he passed away as emergency personnel took him to Mulago Hospital. Responders recorded a video of the incident, which shows how the Benz became deformed after the terrible collision and repeatedly rolled into the pit.
One of the owners of Kagwirawo betting company and Blue Cube was the son of Ibanda, Kamugisha, commonly known as Uncle Pio by people in his circles. Additionally, he and Innocent Nahabwe founded the long-gone Club Amnesia in Kampala.
