Evelyne Lagu, also known by her real name Evelyn Nakabira, is a veteran Ugandan band singer who has been battling kidney failure for several years. Due to her deteriorating condition, one of her veins ruptured and her eyes are no longer functioning well.
Despite being urged by physicians in Turkey to avoid undergoing a kidney transplant process, Evelyn has been undergoing weekly dialysis treatment, which is costly and has made it difficult for her to work. Recently, Evelyn’s health took a turn for the worse as she developed a lung condition that caused water to accumulate, making it hard for her to breathe. In addition, she ruptured a blood vessel, resulting in internal bleeding and injuring one of her eyes.
To make matters worse, the dialysis passage on her upper arm was blocked, making it impossible to administer the treatment. Evelyne Lagu urgently needs surgery to create a new path for dialysis on her leg. However, she is financially unstable and cannot afford the procedure. According to her son, Freddie Kasavu, his mother has not had dialysis for nearly three weeks, putting her life at risk. The situation is dire, and they are appealing to the public for help.
Evelyn has been a well-known figure in the Ugandan music industry for many years. Evelyne Lagu started her career in the 1990s with the Eagles Production Band, where she gained popularity for her soulful voice and stage presence. Over the years, she has released several hit songs, including “Nkoleki” and “Mbulira.” She has also acted in several local movies and TV dramas, showcasing her versatility as an artist.
Evelyn’s contributions to the Ugandan entertainment industry have been significant, and it is heartbreaking to see her go through such a difficult time. We urge everyone to come together and support her in any way they can during this trying time.
