Azawi is the third Ugandan artist to perform on Time Square in New York, following Kenzo and Bobi Wine.
Azawi of Swangz Avenue will travel to places she has never been before as part of an African Music Album. The 16-track album she and her record label released on Independence Day this year has been featured on Time Square Billboards in New York City, US.
Azawi, who only began singing two years ago, is now the third Ugandan star to appear on the prestigious Billboard! Eddy Kenzo, a multi-award winning musician, and NUP darling Bobi Wine are the other two. Unlike Bobi, who was there for political reasons, Kenzo and Azawi were there solely for musical reasons.
In the meantime, she is one of four African artists selected to represent Africa in the YouTube Black Voices Class of 2022.
The #YouTubeBlackVoices Music Class of 2022 is a development program designed to directly support and mentor Black artists, songwriters, and producers worldwide, and is supported by the #YouTubeBlackVoices Fund.
The inclusion of songwriters and producers in the 2022 class demonstrates Youtube’s ongoing and expanded efforts to support Black artists on the platform.
