Four Thieves In Jinja Killed By Mobs, Police Overpowered

At around 7:30 am, one of the suspects (thieves), who was on a motorcycle with no license plate, reportedly tried to con a mobile money provider out of 50,000 Shillings in Jinja. He offered to bring the occupants to a rented room where they keep stolen goods when the residents resorted to beating him up.

Three additional thieves were discovered browsing through possibly stolen stuff as the residents encircled the room, which infuriated them. They placed the suspects in the center of the Jinja-Kamuli road after tying them up with ropes.

However, police from the Field Force Unit ineffectively dispersed the citizens with live ammunition and tear gas. In an effort to obstruct the efforts of the police, the mob descended into chaos and began throwing stones at them. The police were overpowered by the enraged citizens, who then stoned the accused to death before setting their bodies on fire.

Mobile money provider Emmanuel Kigenyi claims that some criminal gangs have turned to dishonest methods of subsistence including petty theft, which incenses the afflicted neighborhood’s residents.

To Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, the bodies of these thieves were transported. James Mubi, the spokesperson for the Kiira Regional Police, urged the public to support legal methods of prosecuting suspects rather than mob justice, which slows down the process of dismantling criminal gangs.
