In January 2019, the Ugandan government proposed a measure requiring all artists to register with the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development. According to the proposed legislation, every artist would have to obtain permission from the ministry before filming a video. Bugingo stated, “We are not trying to fight the government; neither are we saying that all points highlighted in the bill are wrong. But as artistes, we were not represented well. Our biggest problems are not performing for more than two hour or drugs, but copyright. The government will definitely earn much if they pass this bill, but what is in for us artistes?”
However, as artists, we were poorly represented. Our main issues are not performing for more than two hours or drugs, but rather copyright. The government will undoubtedly profit greatly if this plan is passed, but what about us artists?”
Bugingo was welcomed into the Rotary Club of Kampala Munyonyo in March 2019.
