In a candid interview with Sanyuka TV, Mrs. Jalia Vivienne Mbuga, wife of city businessman SK Mbuga, didn’t mince words as she called out Kampala’s slay queens for their increasingly skimpy fashion choices. As a mother of three, Vivienne expressed concern about the growing trend of young girls exposing too much of their bodies, labeling it “ashaming.”
In her active voice and direct speech, Vivienne emphasized the need for fashion choices to adhere to the right codes of parenthood. She pointed out that, as a parent, her responsibility is not only to herself but also to set an example for her children. “My kids look at me because they want to be like mama. Everything I put on, the way I talk, the way I move, everything I do must be okay for my kids,” she asserted.
Vivienne acknowledged that artists may dress differently on stage, but for a layperson like herself, being a parent takes precedence. She questioned the mindset of those who feel better looking almost naked than someone fully dressed, asserting, “Slay queens need to know that being naked does not make you any better than another person who is fully dressed.”
The mother of three expressed her discomfort when encountering individuals dressed too skimpily, urging a reevaluation of fashion standards. “Sometimes you see someone’s outfit and you get ashamed, as a woman,” she added.
In a practical tip for parents, Vivienne advised limiting kids’ social media exposure to ensure they enjoy life beyond the dictates of online platforms. She stressed the importance of guiding children to make choices that align with values and norms, fostering a healthy understanding of self-expression that doesn’t compromise self-respect.
