Singer Edrisah Musuuza, also known as Eddy Kenzo, was named Uganda’s tourism ambassador on September 1st, 2020, but some believe he has not lived up to expectations.
The State Minister for Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi, said that Eddy Kenzo’s global profile would help Uganda’s visibility as a preferred tourist destination when he was introduced as the tourism ambassador.
Kiwanda noted that Eddy Kenzo agreed to sign on as an ambassador at a time when Uganda needed him the most, and that he was an ideal choice. Because he had previously sung positively about the country.
One of the Big Talent Entertainment singer’s responsibilities was to promote the tourism industry on four fronts, including:
- Tulambule is a local awareness campaign that raises Uganda’s visibility in the East African region.
- Destination Uganda is a tourism campaign aimed at attracting tourists from the rest of Africa.
- Twende Uganda Campaign
- Campaign for the Global Pearl of Africa
It has been 16 months since Kenzo began his ambassadorial duties, but some critics believe he has not performed satisfactorily.
As a result, they want the BET award winner’s contract revoked and replaced with someone who can actively promote the country’s tourism potential.
“Eddy Kenzo’s Tourism Ambassador contract should be cancelled. Why are we having someone who can take months without even posting something that promotes this country’s tourism potential as a tourism ambassador?” tweeted @ZeeroBrain.
Several of his followers responded positively to his tweet, and others added their thoughts to the request.
It is unknown when Kenzo’s contract will officially expire. But it is widely assumed that he was brought on board solely for his celebrity. Much like previous ambassadors such as Zari Hassan and Fabiola.
