Prior to his appointment as Deputy Police Chief, Major General Tumusiime Katsigazi was the Deputy Commander of the UPDF Air Force, a position he took over from Maj Gen Gavas Mugyenyi in January 2020.
“H.E President Kaguta Museveni has appointed Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Tumusiime Kasigazi as Deputy Inspector General of Police, ” On Tuesday evening, Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, stated.
Maj Gen Katsigazi previously served as the Defence Liaison Officer at the East African Community headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, as well as the Commander of the Motorized Infantry Brigade, among other assignments.
Maj Gen Katsigazi succeeds Lt Gen Paul Lokech, who died of a blood clot in August of last year after only serving in the position for eight months.
Katsigazi’s appointment as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police replaces Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, who was appointed in November to fill the position in an acting capacity in order to avoid a vacancy.
By appointing Maj Gen Katsigazi, President Museveni has once again ensured that the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police is filled by a serving officer in the UPDF.
He initially appointed Maj Gen Muzeeyi Sabiiti to the position, but replaced him in November 2020 with Maj Gen Paul Lokech, also known as the Lion of Mogadishu.
