Thursday night marked a historic reunion as the legendary girl group, Blue3, comprising Jackie Chandiru, Lilian Mbabazi, and Cindy Sanyu, graced the stage together after a 15-year hiatus. The Protea Hotel Kampala Skyz Naguru hosted this memorable event, leaving the audience in sheer amazement.
Blue3 transported the crowd back in time, performing their classic hits from the days when they ruled the music scene before embarking on solo careers. The trio thrilled fans and announced a forthcoming concert on Women’s Day, March 8, 2024, at Kampala Serena Hotel.
In a heartfelt moment, Cindy Sanyu expressed gratitude to Steve Jean, the producer and founder of Blu*3, acknowledging his pivotal role in shaping their careers. Cindy reminisced about Steve’s unwavering support, recounting how he scouted her from the ghettos of Kabalagala, Kataaba, and Kikuba Mutwe for the Pop Star auditions.
Cindy shared, “Steve Jean picked me up from a small place in Kabalagala, Kikuba Mutwe. And from there, he was like ‘You have to go for these auditions’. So I can’t start the show without giving him his flowers when still alive for the women we have become.”
The reunion was particularly emotional for Cindy, who celebrated overcoming personal struggles, including a battle with toxic substances. She expressed joy at sharing the stage again with Jackie Chandiru after years of separation.
The night drew notable personalities from the music industry, including UNMF president Eddy Kenzo and Vice President Sheebah Karungi, showcasing a unified front amid recent industry clashes. The trio delivered a stellar performance, including hits like “Strong Woman,” “Mutima Gwange,” and “Nsanyuka Nawe.”
Rapper Navio joined Blu*3 on stage for a collaborative rendition of “Burn,” adding an unexpected twist to the unforgettable night. The climax featured individual solo performances, with Lilian performing “Dagala,” Jackie presenting “Gold Digger,” and Cindy captivating the audience with “Selecta.”
Blu*3’s reunion was not just a musical revival but a symbol of unity in the ever-evolving Ugandan music industry, leaving fans eagerly anticipating their upcoming Women’s Day concert.
