Big Eye Starboss, whose real name is Ibrahim Mayanja, recently spoke out against the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) leaders, accusing them of consistently sabotaging the careers of non-members. In an interview with Spark TV, the Indicator singer shed light on an incident where the federation supported Pallaso over Alien Skin, despite both musicians being members.
Adding fuel to the fire, Big Eye mentioned that the federation’s vice president, Sheebah Karungi, scheduled her ‘YOLO Festival’ on the same date – September 15th – that King Michael had already chosen for his concert.
According to Big Eye, these actions are deliberate strategies employed by the UNMF to frustrate non-members, a clear indication of their questionable intentions. Expressing his frustration to the media, he exclaimed, “I don’t know what they call themselves and why they are out to frustrate every musician who is not a member of the federation. They criticized Alien Skin for organizing a concert on the same date as Pallaso, but they are the same people who have fixed a concert on King Michael’s date.”
Big Eye emphasized that the federation should refrain from disturbing others, highlighting that having financial resources and influence does not give them the right to trample on fellow artists’ aspirations. He revealed that King Michael had organized his show to address personal matters, and now the federation’s actions were exacerbating his struggles.
In addition, Big Eye disclosed that some federation members, including Moses Matovu, have chosen to leave because they recognize the federation’s lack of genuine intentions toward fellow artists.
The UNMF’s alleged habit of undermining non-members raises concerns about their role as an inclusive and supportive organization. As artists strive to make their mark in the industry, it is disheartening to witness such tactics employed within the community. It remains to be seen whether the federation will address these claims and work towards fostering a more inclusive environment for all musicians.
