Swangz Avenue’s celebrated singer, Priscilla Zawedde, known by her stage name Azawi, has unveiled her highly anticipated 16-track album, “Sankofa Album,” on October 9th, 2023. Ever since the announcement of Azawi’s upcoming album, “Sankofa,” the music industry has been abuzz with excitement and anticipation for over a month.
As the release date neared, a private gathering was hosted by Azawi on October 3rd, 2023, exclusively for her fans and media members. Here, an exclusive preview of her meticulously crafted album was provided. The exclusive event was held at Kibo Lounge in Naguru, where Azawi shared invaluable insights into the diverse sources of inspiration that fueled her songs featured on the album.
“Sankofa” derives its name from the Twi language of Ghana, translating to “Retrace one’s steps to the past in order to pave a path towards the future.” The album features contributions from various beat makers, including Artin Pro, Banger Boi, and Steve Keys, among other notable collaborators.
In the fourth track, “Summer Bae,” Azawi teams up with Jamaican dancehall sensation Konshens, while Kenya’s renowned musical group, Sauti Sol, joins her on the sixth track, “Njagala Vibe.” Elijah Kitaka, a fellow artist on the same label as Azawi, is featured on two tracks, “Harder” and “Elevated,” the latter also featuring contributions from Mike Kayihura and Bensoul.
“Sankofa Album” is now available for purchase at all music retailers and boasts a diverse tracklist, including “Champion From Africa,” “Egaali,” “Summer Bae,” “Brand New,” “Njagala Vibe,” “Harder,” “Infinity,” “Elevated,” “Lucky Day,” “Married Man,” “Worship,” “Outside,” “Money,” “Omwenge,” and “My God.”
