Frank Gashumba believes the Uganda Communications Commission was correct in rescheduling all gossip TV shows to after 10 p.m.
Firstly, UCC issued a directive to all television stations at the beginning of the week to reschedule all gossip shows from prime time to after 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Stations that fail to comply with the new changes will face regulatory sanctions as part of UCC’s effort to limit adult content, sexual innuendos, and profanity during prime time.
However, UCC directed that all gossip shows on television be broadcast between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The directive sent to TV stations stated that. “any TV station that fails to comply with the directive, the Commission shall proceed to institute other regulatory sanctions.”
The decision has sparked heated debate in the entertainment industry and on social media, with people expressing opposing viewpoints.
Gashumba, who has appeared on several of these gossip shows, wants the shows to be moved even later into the night, to 3 a.m.
“Lugambo “Gossip” Rubbish SHOWS should air at 3:00AM,” he said on Facebook.
He also questioned how gossip shows characterized by “indecency and abuses” can benefit young people.
According to Frank Gashumba, Founder of Sisimuka Uganda, UCC hit the nail on the head with the new guidelines.
“I stand with UCC on the directive to TV stations to schedule ‘lugambo’ shows to after 10pm. Our prime time should be used for more developmental programs. How do our youth benefit from daily doses of gossip, indecency and abuses?”. Frank Gashumba Quoted.
