Joyce Bagala, a journalist, has been thrown out of Parliament after a court ordered a new woman MP election in Mityana.
Following a petition by Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, who finished second in the election, the Court overturned Joyce Bagala Ntwantwa’s election as the Women’s Representative for Mityana District.
The decision is the result of a petition filed by Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development. Who finished second in the election.
Bagala defeated Nabakooba in the January 14 elections by a margin of 16,000 votes. However, in March, Nabakooba filed a petition to challenge the election results. Claiming that Bagala was not validly elected to represent Mityana district in Parliament. Because the Electoral Commission failed to secure the necessary conditions for the election to take place.
However, Nabakooba, the ruling NRM candidate, claims that while registered voters were threatened and her agents were intimidated. EC presiding officers conspired with Bagala and her agents to procure voting by unregistered persons, facilitate voter impersonation, and multiple voting. Nabakooba also stated that when the votes were counted, her valid votes were mixed in with the invalid votes.
She claims that the election was not conducted in accordance with the principles outlined in the Constitution. The Parliamentary Elections Act, and the Electoral Commission Act, which had a significant impact on the outcome. Bagala, on the other hand, claims that her opponent has no legal grievances and is simply nursing the wounds of defeat.

According to Nabakooba, the petition is incompetent because it does not disclose a case recognized by law. Thus it should be dismissed with costs. Bagala claims that the alleged irregularities are figments of Nabakooba’s imagination, cooked up to upset the will of the people of Mityana district.
Joyce Bagala had yet to comment on the court ruling at the time of publication.
