As a result of Ebola containment measures, the Prime Minister’s Office has announced preparations to send emergency food aid to underprivileged populations in the Mubende and Kasanda regions. In order to contain the current Ebola outbreak, President Museveni imposed a lockdown and curfew in the two areas last week for a period of 21 days.
Numerous people have been impacted by the edict, including market vendors, boda-boda riders, taxi drivers and conductors, saloon owners, and others, who are now unable to perform their tasks and are therefore at risk.
The government announced in a statement dated October 21, 2022 that it has taken note of and analyzed the objections to the Ebola control measures raised by political figures from Mubende and Kasanda, and that it will now take action.
“Following clearance from the President, we now guide as follows; Starting next week, the Office of the Prime Minister will deliver emergency relief food items to vulnerable groups i.e those who are impacted most, by Ebola control measures, in the above 2 districts,” the statement reads partly.
Boda-boda cyclists in Mubende and Kasanda will be able to resume operations, according to the government’s announcement, but only for the purpose of transporting luggage and in compliance with the President’s decision about curfew hours.
Recent Ministry of Health figures indicate that the Ebola outbreak is under control. The ministry announced one more Ebola case on Thursday, increasing the total number of cases since the outbreak started to 65. There were two more reported deaths, bringing the total to twenty-seven (27). Nine cases were still open as of Thursday, totaling 26 recoveries (26).
