The documentary “Bobi Wine: The People’s President” by Bobi Wine has already won this year’s Hamptons International Film Festival’s (HIFF) “2022 Audience Award: Best Documentary Feature” before it has ever been officially released.
In 1992, Joyce Robinson established the Hamptons International Film Festival, a global film event. Since then, the festival has been held annually in East Hampton, New York. It typically lasts for five days in the middle of October every year and is held in theaters throughout the Long Island region of New York, USA.
Each festival attracts close to 18,000 attendees, screens close to 100 films annually, and offers an awards package worth over $200,000 in addition to representation from at least twenty different nations each year. HIFF was established to celebrate independent film in all of its forms and to offer a platform for independent filmmakers with various worldviews.
The festival gives young filmmakers with a variety of viewpoints special attention in an effort to not only give festival programming and its producers public visibility, but also to inspire and educate audiences. The People’s President, a passionate and enlightening documentary about the Ugandan musician, actor, activist, and presidential aspirant Bobi Wine, won the Best Documentary Feature prize at the HIFF 2022 Audience Awards this year.
Although the movie directed by Christopher Sharp and Moses Bwayo has not yet been formally published, Bobi Wine was happy to learn of the honor and posted about it on social media. “Even before the official release of our Documentary film, this is what’s up,” he captioned the artwork revealing the good news.
