The Wakiso Giants begin their season without Viane Ssekajugo as they host the 13-time KCCA champions. Both of whom are looking for a strong start to the season. The match wil take place on Sunday October 17, 2021 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakiso, 3pm.
Viane Ssekajugo, the Purple Sharks’ talisman for the previous two seasons, has left for URA.
Douglas Bamweyana, on the other hand, is confident that the available lads will fill the big shoes and has a better plan for the team.
“Players come and go,” he stated when asked about Ssekajugo. “We are confident of the qualities we have in the side and expect some to step up and take the responsibilities,” he added.
“But our main focus is to have a better spread of goals across the team and reduce over reliance on particular individuals.” he continued.
Goals are likely to come from Ivan Bogere, Frank Ssebuufu, and new signing Shariph Kimbowa for the Purple Sharks.
Meanwhile, KCCA coach Morley Byekwaso believes that experience will carry his team through. He takes charge of his first season as a permanent replacement for Mike Mutebi earlier this year
“We have had a very good pre-season. The players have worked really hard and they know the objectives of the club going into the first game of the season,” he told the club media. “The game against Wakiso will be tough but we think we have enough experience to get us the result in the game,” he adds.
Due to injury and documentation issues, the hosts will be without new signings Grant Matsiko and Titus Ssematimba. But the rest of the team is available for selection.
