Renowned video jockey VJ Junior, also known as MarySmarts Matovu, finds himself in a precarious situation after snubbing a school event, leading to the destruction of property by disgruntled children.
VJ Junior is a well-known figure in Uganda, having withstood the test of time in translating English movies into Luganda. His mastery of the craft has earned him gigs all across the country, including the one he neglected on Sunday, July 9th, 2023, at St. Jude Secondary School in Masaka.
Didas Ssekiwunga, a promoter from Didas Events, confirmed that VJ Junior arrived at the school on time. However, he advised him to wait until the visitation day ended before commencing with his movie translation event. Against all expectations, VJ Junior and his team left the school premises and returned to Kampala for reasons only known to them.
During an interview, the promoter disclosed that over 1,400 students were infuriated when they learned of VJ Junior’s absence, resulting in a riot and property damage. Filing a police case under reference 38/11/07//2023, Didas sought justice and demanded that VJ Junior refund the money he had paid him. Additionally, he expected him to apologize to the school administration for the disappointment caused.
In his defense, VJ Junior maintained that he arrived at the school on time and waited for more than five hours. However, the promoter had failed to set up the necessary equipment for the event, leaving him with no choice but to attend other events.
VJ Junior expressed his willingness to provide a statement to the police, detailing his account of events.
