In 2022, a video of Swangz Avenue singer Veronica Luggya, popularly known as Vinka, went viral. The clip showed her kicking a South Sudanese reveller who had crossed the line by inappropriately touching her. Recently, during an appearance on Sanyuka TV’s UnCut show, Vinka bravely addressed the incident and opened up about the trauma she experienced.
Vinka shared that the incident left her feeling utterly traumatized. Unable to suppress her anger and emotions, she reacted instinctively and disciplined the fan who had disrespected her boundaries with a flying kick.
Speaking about the issue of sexual harassment, Vinka emphasized that each person reacts differently to such situations. She made it clear that she feels no remorse for taking action against revellers who are punished for their unacceptable behavior.
“I remember when a fan sexually assaulted me in South Sudan. You know there are fans you can tolerate with light touches. But this one aggressively touched me in my lady parts,” Vinka recalled.
While the incident was distressing, she found comfort in her husband’s support. He reassured her that everything would be alright, providing the much-needed strength to cope with the aftermath.
Vinka also expressed her support for fellow artist Winnie Nwagi, who had previously recounted a similar experience. She encouraged women to stand up for themselves and handle such situations in the way that feels right for them.
“We all react differently, but I do support Winnie in how she handles those who try to give her a hard time as she does her job,” Vinka asserted.
