In a landmark meeting held earlier today, Eddy Kenzo, the President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), met with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to discuss the urgent need for amending the Copyright & Neighboring Rights Act 2006.
“The current act is outdated and fails to adequately protect the rights and interests of Ugandan musicians,” Kenzo asserted during the meeting. He emphasized the prolonged delay in implementing the act, citing it as a significant hindrance to the growth and development of the music industry in Uganda.
President Museveni recognized the gravity of the situation and pledged his unwavering support for addressing the matter expeditiously. In a positive turn of events, president Museveni agreed to a subsequent meeting where Eddy Kenzo would be introduced to the UNMF leadership.
Kenzo expressed his intention to utilize this upcoming meeting as an opportunity to provide a comprehensive update on the progress made in establishing national structures for a more inclusive and vibrant music industry.
The meeting between Kenzo and President Museveni marks a pivotal step forward in the ongoing efforts to amend the Copyright & Neighboring Rights Act 2006. It serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to engaging with the concerns of musicians and fostering a more conducive environment for their artistic pursuits.
