Barely a month after Afrigo band’s Moses Matovu stepped aside from his role as the head of Special Interests Groups at the Uganda National Musicians Federation, another significant departure has occurred. Phina Mugerwa, popularly known as Phina Masanyalaze, has decided to leave her position as the Public Relations and communications lead at the Federation and return to her former role as the secretary of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA).
During a press conference today, Phina Masanyalaze emphasized her respect for the association she serves under as a secretary. She explained that she couldn’t continue as the Public Relations Officer of the Federation without her association’s approval and a comprehensive understanding of the Federation’s formation.
The talented ‘Bampassude‘ artiste shed light on how she became involved with the Federation. Individual contact from the Federation president led to her and other artists joining the organization. Phina was appointed unopposed during the leadership voting process. However, she expressed her frustration at not fully grasping her PR responsibilities, which limited her active participation.
In response to Phina’s return to UMA, the Federation president, speaking to Cindy, warmly welcomed her with open arms, expressing no objections to the transition.
Phina’s decision to step back from the Uganda National Musicians Federation and return to her previous role in UMA shows the importance of alignment between an artist’s association and any federations they may engage with. Effective communication and understanding of roles are vital for a successful collaboration between artistes and their representative bodies.
As Phina Mugerwa embraces her familiar role in the Uganda Musicians Association, we look forward to witnessing her continued contributions to the music industry in Uganda.
