In recent days, comedian Reign Omusoyisoyi, also known as Obedi Lubega from the comedy duo Maulana and Reign, has stirred controversy with his politically charged remix of Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s song “Miracle,” originally featuring Rodah K. the version of Reign, titled “Musenze,” takes aim at both the ruling regime and members of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), criticizing those who have turned against their leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
This unexpected political twist has landed Pastor Bugembe in hot water. He has reportedly been bombarded with calls from government officials, accusing him of complicity with Reign in the song’s creation. To address the issue, Pastor Bugembe took to his pulpit during a Sunday service, firmly distancing himself from the remix.
“I love President Museveni deeply for the freedom of worship he has afforded us in Uganda. He enabled me to establish my Church and has supported religious freedom broadly. Equally, Bobi Wine is a cherished friend with whom I’ve shared many musical endeavors. This Church is inclusive, welcoming both government and opposition supporters. However, politics has no place here,” Bugembe emphasized.
Clarifying his connection to the controversial remix, Bugembe stated, “Reign’s remix of my song was done without my consent. I had no prior knowledge of its political message. While Reign is a friend, I disapprove of the way he altered my lyrics for his political commentary.”
This incident highlights the delicate balance Pastor Bugembe maintains between his personal relationships and his apolitical stance, reaffirming his commitment to fostering unity and spiritual growth within his congregation. However, Musenze by Reign is going viral on social media because it echoes the feelings of many Ugandans.
