Lilian Mbabazi finds herself in legal turmoil as she faces court action over overdue rent exceeding Ugx 16 million. Back in February 2018, Lilian entered into a rental agreement for a property situated in Konge-Buziga, plot 7141, Block 273.
The agreement mandated a monthly rent of Ugx 1.5 million, yet by July 13, 2023, she hadn’t paid for one year and four months, her last payment dating back to April 2022. Despite repeated pleas for payment, Lilian Mbabazi obstinately refused to settle her arrears.
Following a demand letter and notice of impending legal action, Lilian Mbabazi coughed up Ugx 10M on September 28, 2023, pledging to clear the remaining Ugx 16.2M within three months, by December 28. Sadly, she reneged on her promise, failing to pay the outstanding balance to date.
Consequently, the property owner initiated legal proceedings against Lilian Mbabazi, filing a case at the Chief Magistrates Court of Makindye to reclaim the owed Ugx 16.2 million rent. Lilian Mbabazi was given a ten-day deadline from the date of service, March 6, 2023, to address the claims in court. Failure to comply would result in an arrest warrant.
In summary, Lilian Mbabazi’s failure to meet her rental obligations has led to dire legal consequences. It serves as a reminder of the importance of fulfilling contractual agreements promptly to avoid legal entanglements.
