Renowned Ugandan athlete Joshua Cheptegei bags a gold medal in the World Olympic Games. He finished the race at the purple track of Stade de France. His jaw-dropping Olympic record time was 26:43.14, dethroning Selemon Barega.
This gold medal marks Uganda’s first achievement at this year’s Olympics. In the race, Cheptegei surpassed Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi, who won a silver medal. Aregawi’s finish time was 26:43.44. Grant Fisher from the United States secured bronze. He finished just behind in 26:43.46.
Despite defending champion Selemon Barega leading in the first three minutes, Cheptegei emerged victorious. He displayed a scorching pace in the final 600 meters of the 25-lap race.
