In the early hours of Friday, September 6, controversial influencer and former kickboxer Andrew Tate backed Ugandan TV presenter Simon Kaggwa Njala, calling on people to support his bid for public office through a post on X (previously Twitter).
Tate posted a picture of Njala on social media at precisely 12:44 A.M. with the remark, “I want this guy as VP.” Since then, the post has received over 23 million views, eliciting various responses from vociferous detractors and devoted admirers.
Prominent NBS TV personality Simon Kaggwa Njala is renowned for his cutting interviews and unafraid questions. One of his most notable interviews was the one that went viral, in which he questioned LGBT rights activist Pepe Julian Onziema, rather plainly, “Why are you gay?” The video is still making waves on the internet.
The British-American social media guru and former kickboxing champion Andrew Tate has made a name for himself by displaying a luxury lifestyle and holding strong views on gender roles. Tate, born in Washington, D.C. on December 1, 1986, first gained notoriety for his successful kickboxing career before transforming into an internet personality that enjoys stirring up controversy.
But there are also black clouds surrounding Tate’s stardom. His Bucharest home was seized by Romanian officials in 2022 as part of an investigation into grave charges that included rape and people trafficking. The central allegations of the investigation concerned Tate and his brother Tristan’s deception of women into traveling to Romania and their subsequent exploitation of pornographic material.
