In a startling revelation, Diana Museveni Kyaremera, the daughter of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, has confirmed the end of her marriage to Geoffrey Kamuntu. Their nearly two-decade-long union has come to an official close, with Kyaremera sharing the divorce papers and the reasons behind their separation.
Striving to maintain privacy, Kyaremera has now come forward to clarify the circumstances, especially for her children’s sake. “I have tried to keep my divorce private for my children,” she stated, revealing the emotional weight the process has carried.
The “Decree Nisi,” a document finalizing their divorce, emerged in 2022, marking the legal end of their marriage. Kyaremera has openly discussed the divorce’s emotional impact, asking for public support and privacy during this transition.
In a move reflecting her new beginning, Kyaremera requested to be officially recognized by her maiden name, dropping “Kamuntu.” This change was formalized through the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) in 2022.
Diana, the youngest of President Museveni’s children, not only shares a family connection but also holds a significant role as the managing director of the Museveni family enterprises. Her marriage to Kamuntu, initiated on July 24, 2004, blessed them with three children.
Their relationship began enchantingly, with Diana Museveni Kyaremera meeting Kamuntu at her sister’s home, drawn to his charm. Beyond her professional life, Diana’s talents extend to acting, having played the First Lady in “27 Guns,” a film directed by her sister Natasha Karugire.
