Singer Clever J, whose real name is Gerald Muwonge, has come forward to acknowledge an intriguing aspect of his musical journey. In a recent interview at Sanyuka TV, he revealed that he resorted to using witchcraft to create some of his blockbusters, such as the renowned hit “Manzi Wanani.”
In his prime, Clever J delighted music enthusiasts with a series of chart-topping songs like Ensi Ya Leeta, Manzi Wanani, and Fanya Kazi, among others. However, he confessed that his rise to the pinnacle of the music industry was not solely propelled by talent and hard work.
According to Clever J, before the release of songs like Manzi Wanani and Fanya Kazi, he sought the help of various shrines, hoping to boost his success. His efforts paid off as these songs dominated the music charts and airwaves.
However, as with many endeavors involving witchcraft, there came a moment when it demanded a steep price. The witch doctors demanded offerings that were beyond his means at the time, causing Clever J to rethink his path.
He vividly recalled a particular incident where a traditional healer asked for two cows, a hefty demand considering his financial situation at the time. Renting a place and having two months’ worth of back rent made fulfilling such requests impossible.
Eventually, Clever J made a life-changing decision. He decided to discontinue his involvement with witchcraft and turned towards his faith in Christ instead. Since then, he has been an ardent follower of Christianity.
