Azawi has won eight awards in the last two weeks, and she, like her fans, is savoring the aroma of early success.
After several years of hustling underground, Priscilla Zawedde alias Azawi was officially signed as a Swangz Avenue artiste on November 1st, 2019.
Her hiring raised a few eyebrows, especially given how little she had been heard of in music circles up until that point.
However, it only took a few studio sessions for Swangz Avenue CEO Julius Kyazze to identify Azawi as the next big thing in Ugandan music, and two years later, it is a reality.
Azawi won over many hearts with her first song, Quinamino though. Her voice, lyricism, and humble demeanor worked their magic.
In addition, she continued to make her point, showcasing her diverse abilities on the five-track Lo Fit E.P, which she released on February 28th, 2020.
It is easy to fall in love with her as a person – and if you don’t, the allure of her artistry will have you hooked and dragged all the way through the sea of her uniqueness.
Azawi released the ‘African Music’ album on October 9th, 2021, and with it, she proved anyone who doubted her talent wrong.
It’s difficult to pick a favorite song from the album because they’re all worth hearing. She gave it everything she had.
For all of her efforts, the bubbly 25-year-old has received eight awards from two major Ugandan award ceremonies.
Azawi has received the following awards:
- Female Artist of the Year
- Outstanding Album of the Year – African Music
- Outstanding Afro Beat/Pop Artist
- Artist of the Year
- Teenz Female Artist of the Year
- Teenz Hottest Songwriter
- Teenz Hottest Song of the year – ‘Slow Dancing’
- Teenz Flyest video – ‘Slow Dancing’
