For three years and eight months, Joe Bossa, a talented singer, endured a harrowing ordeal, trapped in a real-life nightmare. Her wealthy but insecure boyfriend subjected her to relentless physical abuse, both in private and in public, even at a music concert.
Joe, formerly a member of the renowned Matendo band, was compelled to put her music career on hold as she suffered under the control of her jealous and extremely abusive partner.
Describing him without disclosing his identity, she portrays him as a young, attractive, and prosperous businessman engaged in importing goods from China. Coincidentally, he resided across the street from her apartment, making it all the more challenging to escape his clutches.
Although the Love Yo singer was aware of his reputation as a ladies’ man, she allowed herself to be charmed into his life after a few encounters at his business premises. She even ended her relationship with her boyfriend in South Africa to be with him.
However, it wasn’t long before the facade crumbled, revealing his true colors—increasing impulsiveness and extreme jealousy. Disputes arose over her appearances at music shows, quickly escalating into violent beatings.
In a recent YouTube interview, Joe revealed, “He frequently and severely beat me. I was even hospitalized once.” Her abuser would often express remorse after the violence, showering her with gifts and taking her out. One such gift was a Toyota Spacio. Yet, the cycle of abuse persisted. During a music show in Lukaya, her boyfriend barged in, assaulting her in the presence of Evelyn Lugu, her colleague.
Recalling the incident, Joe Bossa shared, “I had just finished performing with Evelyn when he arrived, having driven all the way from Kampala. I was sitting in my Spacio with Lagu when suddenly, I felt an intense slap across my face.”
Shocked by the scene, Lagu intervened, demanding he leave. It was at that moment that Joe made the firm decision to leave him behind, even abandoning her car in Lukaya, eventually arranging for someone to drive it back to the city.
Since then, Joe Bossa made the courageous choice to temporarily halt her music career and explore other ventures, including farming and grain sales. Additionally, she established a herbal clinic.
Recently, she found the strength to revisit her passion for singing, marking her triumphant return with a new single. As Joe reclaims her voice, she serves as an inspiration to countless others who have faced similar ordeals, demonstrating the resilience of the human spirit and the power of music to heal and empower.
